Frequently Asked Questions

How big is a Standard Page?

Standard Page has no physical size. Standard Page is a technical unit of measure, which is based on a principle that one Standard Page contains 60 lines with 30 characters each. One physical page may thus contain anywhere from a few characters up to several Standard Pages. It all depends on the format and size of font used.

How is the final price calculated?

All translation prices stated in the price list are prices counted based on source text. When translating from Czech to majority of other languages the volume of text increases. Average volume increase off translated text is between 10-20%. Due to our extensive experience with translation to and from English we know today that the precise average of this combination is 13,5%. And advantage of our pricelist therefore is that on translations to English you save 13,5% against competitiors. Another advantage is that the price we quote you in advance is final and will not increase throughout the project.

Why is the final text volume so different?

There are few things at fault. Number one is that translation into English must take into consideration for example English definite and indefinite articles (the, a, an). Another factor that increases volume in translations are acronyms. If Czech acronyms are to make sense in English they must be wrtitten out. This principle applies to all language combinations. This is why for example a translation from English to Czech will not decrese in volume by the same percentage as it will in the other direction. Despite the Czech sentence structure containing less characters, once you run up on an acronyms, then these must be written out. This is why it is difficult to estimate a precise volume of final text in advance.

How can I save on translation counted by Standard Pages?

One of the main ways to sacve on translation is when you format placement of text on a page you should use the TAB key instead of Space Bar. Another way is not to use Space Bar at the start of a paragraph, but rather the paragraph settings in the top "ruler." Third way is not to use dots to place a line for signature for example. Word today is able to recognize this style and does count it as 1 character, but it may not always be the case. And definitely do not use the style space dot space dot. This will only increase the text volume many times and makes the translator money without any effort in his side.

In what format do you accept source text for translation?

Texts can be sent electronically or deliver their hardcopies. Ideal source format for translarting however are formats *.docx or *.odt, possibly *.xlsx or *.odf. More comple graphic designs are another service.

In what form do you perform possible proofreading?

If a client requires proofreading by a third person, then this is calculated according to the pricelus item Proofreading here.

I need a translation fast, will I pay more?

NO! Never did we practice nor are we considering introducing a surcharge for speed. Jusdt remember the old rule that haste makes waste. A speedy translation will never be as good as one for which a translator has ample time.

What are your standard deadlines for translations?

From our long term experience we know that the number of Standard Pages that a translator can translate in 1 day is 10. If a project requires more pages to be translated in this time frame, then the text must be split among multiple people. This method does impact qualiry, but it is the only way to get 30 Standard Pages done per day. Translations in the extent of 1-10 pages cab be translated within 24 hours without impact on quality.
